Loudonville, NY - The Iona College men's soccer team (7-8-2, 4-2-2) recorded its second consecutive tie with a 2-2 stalemate against Siena this afternoon. Sophomore Giovanni Destasio scored his third goal of the season in the first half, while Aly Lo netted one in the second half for his team-leading tenth goal of the year.
Siena's Kevin Gluchowski put the Saints on the board with a goal in the 12th minute. Thomas Ciovacco and Steve Covino earned assists on the play as Gluchowski reeled in a rebound in front of the net and pocketed it for the early goal. Ciovacco would later make it 2-0 when he placed a free kick in the right corner in the 30th minute.
The Gaels joined in on the scoring action ten minutes later. In the 40th minute, Destasio tracked down a loose ball in the box and placed it past Siena goalkeeper Steve Skonieczny to help Iona climb within one.
With 56:39 on the clock, the Gaels posted the equalizer when a Siena clear attempt faltered. The Iona defense intercepted a Saints pass, setting up the stage for Lo's goal which evened the score at 2-2. Both defensive lines managed to keep the ball out of the net over the remainder of regulation to force the game into extra minutes.
Iona outshot the Saints 6-3 over two overtime periods, but never managed another score.
The Maroon & Gold will play its final conference matchup of the regular season with a 7:00 tilt at Fairfield on Nov.
