Lake Buena Vista, FL - The No. 5 seed Iona College men's soccer team (8-9-2) lost a 2-0 match to No. 4 seed Canisius (7-11-0) in the quarterfinal round of the 2007 MAAC Championship, held at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
Iona held a 6-3 shot advantage in what was a scoreless first half of play. Golden Griffin goalkeeper Adam Catley made three saves in the period on attempts by Michael Ferenci, Aly Lo, and Mario Rios.
The Gaels were still unable to score on the Canisius defense following halftime despite a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. The Griffs' Chris Carpenter netted the first goal of the game just under eight minutes into the second half. Carpenter took a pass from teammate Mariano Sapien on the right side of the box and crossed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
With two seconds left on the clock, Brendan Brody lofted a pass over the head of Iona netminder Nils Binstock to give Canisius a two point spread in the defeat.
