Fairfield, CT - After 90 minutes of scoreless play, the Iona College men's soccer team was delt a 1-0 loss in overtime against the Fairfield Stags. It was the third consecutive game the Gaels have played to go into extra minutes.
Iona did have opportunities late in the second half that nearly won the game in regulation. Pasquale Abiuso had the first chance when he sent a shot to the far post from the right side of the box that Fairfield goalie Jordan Bar was able to deflect over the crossbar. Paul Racines also had an opportunity from the right side that just sailed wide of the far post.
The Stags took advantage of a free kick opportunity from 25 yards out in the 98th minute. Tucker Nathans sent a driving shot over the head of Nils Binstock and just under the crossbar to find the back of the net for the Fairfield win.
The Maroon & Gold will play its final game of the regular season on Nov. 10 in non-conference action on the road against Quinnipiac.
