CARDINALS PROVE TO BE TOO MUCH FOR GAELS ON ROAD, 67-36

Louisville, KY - The Iona College men's basketball fell 67-36 to Louisville at Freedom Hall. The Gaels (5-8) were unable to solve the Cardinals (9-3) stifling defense shooting just 19.0% (11-of-58) from the field.

After scoring the first bucket of the game, Iona withstood a 9-0 Cardinal run, falling behind by seven points at 15:12. The Gaels charged back to cut the deficit to 11-10 less than three minutes later. The Maroon & Gold then hit a wall, unable to find a point for nearly nine minutes as Louisville built a 21-10 lead with 3:55 to play. Iona trailed by 12 at the half holding the home team to just 34.5% shooting in the frame.

Louisville opened up the second half with a 15-3 run in the first five and a half minutes to put the game out of reach.

Junior Gary Springer came off the bench to score nine points while adding nine rebounds in the loss. Kyle Camper and Devon Clarke each had six points for the Gaels.

Iona is back in action on New Year's Eve when they take on unbeaten Vanderbilt in Nashville. The Gaels and Commodores tip off at Noon.
