New Rochelle, NY - Martina Weber's game high 23 points led Iona women's basketball (17-10, 12-4 MAAC) to a 64-49 victory over Loyola (16-10, 11-5 MAAC) at the Hynes Athletics Center. The Gaels have now won nine consecutive games on their home floor, and have matched last season's program best 17 wins.
Tiara Headen and Lauren DeFalco each poured in 13 points, with DeFalco registering 12 boards for the double-double.
Erica DiClemente paced the Greyhounds with 16 points and four rebounds.
Weber dropped in two quick field goals and a bucket from the line for the first five points of the night. DeFalco added a jumper from three range to put the Gaels up 8-1 at the 17:36 mark.
Loyola rolled up and pulled ahead on two good shots by DiClemente from the line. They were up by as much as 12 at 6:18 before Iona began to battle back. Headen netted one with 25 seconds to go in the half to bring the Maroon & Gold within one at halftime.
The two teams traded the lead to begin the second period with jumpers from Regan Pettijohn, Kaitlin Grant, and Anna McLean. McLean's shot kicked off a 27-14 Iona run.
The Gaels enjoyed their largest lead of the night, a 61-45 advantage with 1:48 left in the game.
DeFalco sunk five from the line in the final 1:10 to preserve the win.
The women will host Marist on Feb. 23 in game one of a doubleheader with the men's team, to be broadcast on ESPNU. Tip-off is set for 4:30 pm.
