NEWTON, MA - Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, junior Rodrigo Faria netted the equalizer in the 81st minute as the Iona College men's soccer team (7-2-1) and defending ACC champion Boston College (5-4-2) played to a 1-1 tie in non-conference action.
The Eagles' Conor Fitzpatrick scored in the second half to break a scoreless tie at the 62:54 mark. Jamie Melas redirected a cross with a header which Fitzpatrick one-timed into the net for the game's first goal.
Faria recorded his first tally of the season just more than 17 minutes later with a left-footed direct kick from just outside the 18-yard box at 80:17.
Iona goalkeeper Nils Binstock guarded the net for 110 minutes, making three saves. Boston's Chris Brown had one save.
Boston College was ranked as high as No. 2 in week two of the NSCAA/adidas National Rankings. The Gaels, currently ranked No. 4 in the North Atlantic Region, are unbeaten in their last eight matches (7-0-1).
Iona is back in MAAC action next weekend, playing at Manhattan on Friday (Oct. 17) and at Saint Peter's on Sunday (Oct. 19).
