RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona College men's soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout of Manhattan extending its unbeaten streak to nine games and improving to 8-2-1 on the season. The Gaels (2-0 MAAC) have matched their highest win total under head coach

Junior MF
Giovanni Destasio netted his team leading seventh goal of the season to give the Maroon & Gold all they would need in the game. Iona went up 1-0 in the seventh minute. Sophomore MF
Mario Rios blitzed down the right side line sparking a fast break opportunity. He sent a cross into the middle of the field, finding Destasio who placed a shot in the back of the net.
The Gaels quickly took a 2-0 lead less than five minutes later. Senior MF
Taurean Manders blasted a rocket in the top left corner to extend the lead. His first goal of the season was assisted by classmate
Aly Lo in the 13th minute.
In the 49th minute, rookie
Adam Rohan netted his first collegiate goal to add an insurance tally to the Gaels' total. Junior
Fernando Liserra served a free kick into the middle of the box and Rohan redirected it with his head into the back of the net.
Iona out shot Manhattan 15-10 in the game with a 9-3 advantage for shots on goal. Senior GK
Nils Binstock lowered his GAA to 0.8 goals per game, posting his sixth shutout of the season with three saves.
During its unbeaten streak, the squad has outscored their opponent 21-2 with seven shutouts. The Gaels return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Saint Peter's in a MAAC contest on the road.
