JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Iona College men's soccer team was defeated, 3-1, at Saint Peter's for the team's first loss in ten contests. The Gaels are now 8-3-1 overall and 2-1 in MAAC action, while the Peacocks improved to 6-5-2 and 2-2 in conference play.
Saint Peter's' Udi Naim scored a pair of goals in the first half to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. Braulio Constantino took a corner kick in the 15th minute which was headed by Lebogang Pila and placed into the back of the net by Naim. Naim later scored on a free kick at the 25:21 mark.
Ahead 2-0 in the second period, Rumen Kerekov increased the Peacocks' advantage to three goals when he scored in the 74th minute. Iona junior
Giovanni Destasio tried to help the Gaels stage a comeback with an unassisted shot over goalie Matthew Lawlor to put the Maroon & Gold on the scoreboard at 78:43. One final shot by
Fernando Liserra with less than three minutes remaining sailed wide as Iona was left trailing 3-1 at the final horn.

Nils Binstock made three saves in the match and the Gaels held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
Iona returns to action at Mazzella Field on Oct. 24, hosting Loyola at 3:00 pm.
