Baltimore, MD - In its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match of the season, the Iona College women's soccer team was defeated by Loyola, 4-0. Julianne Marinaro, Sarah Porco, and Kerrie Deignan each registered a shot on goal for the Gaels, but were unable to reach the scoreboard.
Theresa Ferraina led the Greyhounds with four points on the day, scoring one goal in the second half and assisting on two in the first. Loyola scored three times in the opening period and once with just under 20 minutes remaining in the contest.
"We made two mistakes in the first half that we were punished for," said head coach Eric Teepe. "We gave up a soft goal and lost our composure a little. It was a tough day."
Junior defender Amber Blocher added, "We came out and did what we could. We didn't get the result we were looking for, but we are aiming to capitalize on last Sunday's win and play strong the rest of the season."
Senior goalkeeper Suzanne Baldissard made six saves for the Gaels, spending the entire 90 minutes in front of the net.
Iona continues a two-game road swing with a contest at Rider on Sunday (Oct. 5). Start time is 1:00 pm.
