Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, NY - A late comeback attempt by the Iona College men's basketball team was halted only by the time on the clock in a 70-62 loss to Robert Morris in non-conference action at the Hynes Athletics Center.  Senior Gary Springer netted a team-high 17 points while classmate Devon Clarke added 10 in the loss.

Junior Milan Prodanovic tied the score at 3-3 in the second minute of the game marking the only time the Colonials did not hold a lead in the contest.   Springer's layup put the score at 11-8 at the 14:14 mark.  An 8-0 run by Robert Morris over the next four minutes gave the visitors an 11-point lead that Iona could not overcome.

In the second half, the Colonials took their largest lead at  8:46 when two Josiah Whitehead free throws - the first of the game for Robert Morris - made the advantage 53-37.  Trailing by the same margin with 5:54 remaining, the Gaels embarked on a furious comeback.  Sophomore Kashif Pratt's three-pointer from the corner with 31 seconds remaining capped an 18-7 run as Iona trailed 64-59.  A layup and four free throws in the final seconds helped the Colonials hold on to the eight-point win.

Springer shot 6-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line to account for his 17 points.  He added a team-high six rebounds including five on the offensive glass.  Clarke scored six of his 10 points in the final three and a half minutes of the game.   Prodanovic ended the contest with nine points and three steals while rookie point guard Jermel Jenkins led the way with four assists and just one turnover.

The Gaels begin conference play next weekend with two contests on the road.  Iona takes on Marist on Friday night before battling with Fairfield on Sunday afternoon.
