NEW ROCHELLE, NY - In the final game of the regular season, the Iona College men's soccer team shut out its ninth opponent of the year with a 1-0 victory over Marist.  Senior Aly Lo recorded the only goal of the afternoon in the first half.

In the 24th minute, Mario Rios dribbled his way through a pack of Red Foxes and took a shot that caromed off the crossbar.  As the ball came down, Lo headed it into the back of the net to score the game winner.

The Gaels tried to increase their lead in the second half, unable to connect on nine shot attempts but were able to hold off Marist to get the win.

Goalkeeper Nils Binstock made three saves to earn his tenth win and eighth shutout.  The Gaels led 14-10 in shots and registered nine shots on goal.  Marist keeper Marcelo del Rio had seven saves in the loss.

With the victory, the Maroon & Gold closes out the 2008 season with a record of 11-6-1 overall and 5-4-0 in MAAC play.  The Gaels narrowly missed a playoff spot with their fifth place standing.  Iona's eleven wins in 2008 are the most under head coach Fernando Barboto.
