Lawrenceville, NJ - The Iona College women's basketball team saw a five game winning streak end with a 57-49 loss to Rider on the road. Tiara Headen was the lone Gael to score in double figures, leading the squad with ten points.
The Maroon & Gold opened up a 6-0 lead to begin the game, jump started by a layup from Anna McLean. The Broncs were held off the scoreboard until the 15:20 mark, when Janele Henderson knocked down consecutive three point baskets. Shaunice Parker laid one in with 14:28 on the clock to give Rider the lead for a brief while, until Iona took over on a Cat Lutz trifecta.
The Gaels used a 9.8% shooting advantage in the first period to maintain the lead for a 31-28 advance at halftime.
The two teams swapped the top position for much of the second half, which featured nine lead changes. Rider pulled in front for good on a bucket from three point range by Amanda Sepulveda with 4:26 to go in the game. That basket sparked a 14-5 run for the hosts over the home stretch which sealed the defeat.
