New Rochelle, NY - They only gave up a single goal midway through the first half, but it
was enough to put a damper on the result as the Iona College women's
soccer team (0-2-0) dropped its second straight decision in a 1-0
shutout by Stony Brook (1-1-0).
The Seawolves' Trine Allenberg scored on her only shot of the contest, launching the deciding goal in the 23rd minute. The Gaels narrowly missed an opportunity to even the score in the 38th minute when Mariel Pepe was denied on a solid attempt. Iona increased the pressure on as time wore down, recording two of its five shots on goal in the final ten minutes. Unfortunately for the Maroon & Gold, both shots were saved by Stony Brook's Marisa Viola.
Gael netminder Suzanne Baldissard kept her team in contention, making four saves on the day while allowing only one goal.
The squad is back in action in a game at Fordham on Aug. 31 beginning at 1:00 pm.
