Bronx, NY - With a 1-0 defeat by Fordham this afternoon, the Iona College women's soccer team has yet to cross the goal line in its first three contests of the 2008 season. The Rams opened their campaign with a victory in their season opener while the Gaels drop to 0-3-0.
Fordham registered 14 shots on the afternoon and held Iona to just two, attempted by Liz Butt and Lauren Machtel. The lone goal of the day came in the 33rd minute of the first half. Fordham's Katie McDermott took the ball off a cross into the box and knocked it into the net past Iona goalkeeper Suzanne Baldissard. Despite the one miss, Baldissard made eight saves in the game.
The Gaels suit up again in one week when they return to Mazzella Field to host Maine at 12:00 pm on Sep. 7.
