Brooklyn, NY - Five different players scored for the Gaels as the Iona College men's soccer team (2-2-0) won its first of two games at the Long Island University Classic. The Maroon & Gold recorded a 6-0 win over CSU Bakersfield (1-4-0) for its second straight victory.
Giovanni Destasio put Iona on the board with a pair of goals to begin the contest, succeeded by a Ben Williams tally which gave the Gaels a 3-0 advantage going into the break. Iona led the Roadrunners 13-3 in first half shots.
The second half was highlighted by a trio of first-time scorers in the young season. Senior Aly Lo, junior Tonna Egbuchunam, and sophomore Mario Rios all logged their first goals of the year to add to Iona's demanding performance. The squad managed 14 shots on goal while out-shooting CSUB 20-8 on the day. In goal, Nils Binstock was joined by Ryan McDonald who made his first appearance of 2008 and the duo combined for two saves.
The Gaels' run in the tournament continues on Sunday when they take on Maine for a 2:30 pm start.
