IONA STRUGGLES AT SIENA

LOUDONVILLE, NY - With its second-lowest points total of the season, the Iona College women's basketball team lost a 70-45 road matchup to Siena.  Anda Ivkovic was the lone Gael to score in double figures, leading the team with 11 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals.

Ivkovic opened the night's scoring with a layup to give Iona a 2-0 lead at the 18:51 mark.  Allie Lindemann then knocked down her first of two trifectas to push the Saints ahead by one before Suzi Fregosi broke through with a basket to regain a one-point edge for the Gaels.

With 17:22 on the clock, Lindemann hit another three-point field goal which pushed Siena back in front for good.  A 14-2 run gave the home team an 11 point lead with 13:08 to go in the half that was stretched to as far as 12 points at 7:32.  The Maroon & Gold scored 15 of the next 21 points, sparked by a shot from beyond the arc by Kristina Ford, to climb to within three with 3:28 remaining in the first half, but Iona would get no closer in the contest.

Despite forcing 29 Siena turnovers, Iona committed 25 and was outdone 17-13 in transition points.  The Gaels struggled from the floor, converting on just 27% of their 63 shot attempts.

Iona returns to action on Jan. 18, facing Rider for the second time this season.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm at the Hynes Athletics Center.
