New Rochelle, NY ? The Iona College men's swimming and diving team finished their regular season schedule with a pair of setbacks in a double dual meet at Hynes Center Pool. The Greyhounds of Loyola were able to down the Gaels 185-94 while the Stags of Fairfield defeated the Gaels 160.5-127.5.
The men's 200-yard Medley Relay team started the meet off with a second place finish at a time of 1:40.40.
In the first individual event, freshman
Raymond Joyal paced the Gaels with a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle. Sophomore
Patrick O'Reilly (10:44.33) placed fourth, while junior
Daniel Pflager (11:07.87) finished the event in sixth. Joyal (5:11.48) would later place fifth in the 500-yard freestyle.

David Gartman placed third in the next event, the 200-yard freestyle, in a time of 1:47.07.
Junior
Joe Przekota (57.96) continued to help the Gaels earn points with a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Joyal finished eighth in the event with a time of 1:03.39. Przekota would finish third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.73.
The next event, the 100-yard breaststroke, saw three members of the Maroon & Gold, junior Matt Magura (1:02.25), freshman John Van Winkle (1:05.44), and sophomore
Graham Weir (1:05.45) finish in the top eight. Magura (2:18.39) and Van Winkle (2:23.03), as well as senior
Karim Mabrouk (2:28.96) would also finish in the top eight of the 200-yard breaststroke. Magura finished the afternoon with a fifth place finish in the 200-yard IM, with a time of 2:07.25.
O'Reilly placed fourth in the next event, the 200-yard butterfly, with a time of 2:08.87, while freshman
Trevor Creighton (2:14.75) placed sixth. O' Reilly (2:12.69) would finish sixth in his next event, the 200-yard backstroke.
Sophomore
Seth Tasman provided the first race victory for the Gaels during the day with a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, recording a time of 21.69. Senior
Ed Gronkowski (22.56) and freshman Matthew Kolb (22.92) also cracked the top five.
Gartman (48.65), Tasman (48.85), Gronkowski (49.87), and Weir (51.42) continued their fine afternoons when all four placed in the top six of the 100-yard freestyle. Gartman (2:01.38) placed third in the 200-yard IM, while Tasman would later place fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.51.
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay teams would finish the afternoon with second (1:29.77) and fourth (1:32.69) place finishes in the event.
Prior to the meet, the three senior members of the team were honored for their commitment and dedication to Iona College athletics. They included Gronkowski, Mabrouk, and
Patrick St. Cin.
The Gaels return to the pool for the MAAC Championships, taking place Feb. 12-14 in Baltimore, MD.
