Scott Machado led four Gaels (7-9, 2-3 MAAC) in double figures with 15 points in the squad's second straight conference win.
Canisius (5-10, 0-5 MAAC) led for the majority of the first half, and gained its largest lead of five points with 67 ticks left on two Greg Logins free throws. Rookie
Jermel Jenkins pulled Iona to within two points on a three-pointer on the Gaels next possession. It appeared the the Gaels would take a lead going into the break when
Milan Prodanovic drained a deep three-ball but the referee blew the whistle and called the junior for stepping out of bounds before catching the ball and Iona trailed 32-30 at halftime.
Neither team was able to take control in the second half as there were three ties and seven lead changes in the frame. The Gaels fell behind by six points when Tomas Vasquez-Simmons hit his fourth three pointer of the game from the wing to make the score 43-37 with 14:24 to play. The Maroon & Gold quickly erased the deficit with an 8-0 run capped by another Jenkins trifecta at 12:12. Another Canisius three-pointer tied the score for the ninth time in the game at 53-53 at the 7:48 mark. Senior
Devon Clarke gave Iona the lead for good a possession later on a layup. Vasquez-Simmons' put back dunk made the score 59-58 with 3:40 to play but that was as close as the Griffs would get as Iona scored the final 10 points of the contest, with five different players combining for an 8-for-10 effort from the free throw line to seal the victory.
Machado shot 5-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe with one three pointer to account for his 15 points. Prodanovic posted 11 points and was 2-for-2 from long distance. Jenkins and classmate
Trinity Fields each had 10 points. Jenkins was 3-for-3 on three point attempts and dished out a team-best five assists. Senior

Vasquez-Simmons led the way for the Golden Griffins with 16 points. Logins posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The Gaels begin a five-game stint away from the Hynes Center in a rematch with Rider on Sunday afternoon.
