NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's soccer team was shut out at Mazzella Field in a 5-0 loss to MAAC-leading Loyola. The Gaels are now even in conference play at 3-3 (6-10-1 overall) while the Greyhounds remain unbeaten in the league at 6-0 (10-4-2 overall).
Loyola first reached the scoreboard 12:05 into the contest on a goal by Theresa Ferraina. Nichole Schiro, who assisted on the initial tally, recorded the second goal of the afternoon later in the first half.
Coming out of halftime the Greyhounds netted two quick goals, both unassisted shots, by Christina Gomez and Kelly Thomas. The final goal of the game came in the 82nd minute when Keri Iheagwara scored off a cross by Gianna Mangione from the left side.
Although they were unable to reach the back of the net, the Gaels attempted ten shots in the match including two shots on goal each by freshmen
Leah Taylor and
Carly Villanova. Goalkeeper
Suzanne Baldissard made six saves while Brittany Henderson saved five for Loyola.
Iona carries on homecoming weekend action on Sunday (Oct. 18), hosting Rider at noon.
