LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL - The Iona College women's soccer team was dealt a 1-0 loss by Canisius in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship, held at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The Gaels wrap up the season with an 8-12-1 overall record. The eight wins were the most for the program since winning ten games in 2005.
The Gaels' first trip to the MAAC tournament since that 2005 season was ended early as Keily Funk scored the lone goal of the afternoon for the Golden Griffins in the first half. Funk netted a header in the 36th minute off a long cross from Meagan Jones to give Canisius a 1-0 lead going into the break.
Despite giving up the goal, Iona outshot Canisius 9-2 in the first period and 13-12 overall in the match.
Abby Dixon and lead the squad in shots on goal with two apiece, while

Diane Hare, and
Kendra Chisolm each had one. Senior goalkeeper
Suzanne Baldissard made eight saves in her final contest in Maroon & Gold.
