NEW ROCHELLE, NY - With its second consecutive victory by shutout and the fourth of the season, the Iona College women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three by defeating Marist at Mazzella Field.  The Gaels (5-8-1, 2-1-0 MAAC) won 1-0 on senior Amber Blocher's second half goal.

Iona played confidently, coming off a win against Siena two days prior, leading 5-3 in corner kicks and trailing slightly in shots (9-6) through a scoreless first half. The Maroon & Gold tallied the only goal of the day in the 64th minute when Blocher headed the ball into the back of the net following a corner kick by freshman Leah Taylor.

Senior goalkeeper Suzanne Baldissard made eight saves in her second win of the year, and improved her season save percentage to 90.8%.  Marist's Jamie Balzarini had three saves while Jaclynn Sabia led all offensive players with three shots on goal for the Red Foxes.

Iona continues MAAC action on the road, playing at nearby Manhattan at 7:00 pm on Oct. 9.
