RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime at Manhattan to end a three game winning streak. The Gaels gave up a goal the only goal of the evening in the 97th minute to even their MAAC record to 2-2 (5-9-1 overall).
The two squads combined for 26 shots during regulation, with Iona accumulating 11 in the second half, but neither side was able to break the draw. The contest was the third straight extra-minute outing for the Jaspers (5-7-1, 1-3-1 MAAC).
Manhattan broke through in the first overtime period, as a shot by Caroline Morse from the left baseline found its way into the back of the net. The goal was the first allowed by Gael keeper Suzanne Baldissard in 333 minutes. Baldissard ended the night with six saves while Kara Davis had seven for Manhattan.
Amber Blocher and Carly Villanova each recorded two shots on goal to lead the Gaels. Iona continues MAAC action on Sunday, traveling to Saint Peter's for a 1:00 pm tilt.
