STORRS, CT - The Iona College women's basketball team lost a 90-35 decision to top ranked Connecticut in non-conference action at Gampel Pavilion.  With the loss, the Gaels drop to 3-7 while the Huskies remain unbeaten at 9-0.

Iona was able to hold UConn to a slow start and remained in the running in the early minutes.  Diana Hubbard knocked down a three point field goal for Iona's first points and cut a 4-0 Husky lead down to 4-3.  A Connecticut basket by Tiffany Charles pushed the advantage back up to 6-3 before Catherine Lutz executed a bright spin move to nail a jumper and pull the Gaels to within one at 15:30.

UConn's Maya Moore, who finished the night with a game-high 23 points, recorded her first bucket at the 14:38 mark to make the score 8-5.  Iona answered back once again, this time with a layup by Anna McLean, and trailed by just one point with 14:15 remaining in the first half.

The Huskies began to pull away at that point and scored 14 unanswered to take a 22-7 lead four minutes later.  Connecticut went on to hold a 45-18 advantage at halftime en route to the 90-35 final.

Hubbard led the Maroon & Gold with ten points on a 4-6 shooting effort which included a 2-3 mark from beyond the arc.  Kristina Ford was the high rebounder for the Gaels, grabbing six boards along with two points, three assists, two steals, and one block. 

Iona will enjoy a short break for the Christmas holiday before resuming competition on Dec. 28.  The Gaels host St. Francis (NY) at 7:30 pm in the final non-league matchup of the season.
