BALTIMORE, MD - The Iona College men's swimming and diving team completed the second day of events at the H2Ounds Invitational in Baltimiore Saturday afternoon. The Gaels were able to turn away Marist 237-126, but were outscored by Delaware 110-258 and Loyola 150-200.
In the 400 yard medley relay, the team of Joe Przekota, Matt Magura, Seth Tasman and David Gartman took fifth with a time of 3:32.44. Just behind them in sixth with a time of 3:35.85 was the team of Michael Wu, Chris Yacobacci, William Kolodgie and Ed Gronkowski.
In the 500 yard freestyle, Joseph De Leone took sixth with a time of 4:47.95.The next finisher for the Gaels was Zachary Benoit, who touched the wall with a time of 4:50.78. Raymond Joyal took 11th with a time of 4:52.76, while Patrick O'Reilly was 19th with a time of 5:01.17. Michael O'Connor was just behind in 20th with a time of 5:09.82, and Joe Przekota took 21st with a time of 5:22.46.
Gartman took second in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:55.19, with Kolodgie behind in fourth with a time of 1:57.08 and Yacobacci fifth with a time of 1:57.35. Magura took 11th with a time of 2:01.26 and Cody Siemeck was 20th with a time of 2:08.51.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Tasman was second with a time of 21.15, and Cameron Hudson took fifth with a time of 21.55. Gronkowski was 12th with a time of 21.83 and Kristian Bocage was 16th with a time of 22.26. Graham Weir took 19th with a time of 22.46 and Christ Durette was 21st with a time of 22.81.
The 800 freestyle relay team of De Leone, Yacobacci, Hudson and Gartman set a new Iona standard with a time of 7:03.79. The team of Weir, Joyal, Benoti and Durette was seventh with a time of 7:18.83.
In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Gronkowski, Weir, Tasman and Gartman took second with a time of 1:25.58.the team of Hudson De Leone, Przekota and Marty Callinan was eighth with a time of 1:30.18.
In the 400 yard IM, Yacobacci set a new Iona school record with a time of 4:11.39. Joyal was ninth with a time of 4:21.37 and Kolodgie was 11th with a time of 4:22.34. Siemeck was 17th with a time of 4:37.37.
Tasman took fourth in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 51.70. Wu was 11th with a time of 55.02, with Patrick O'Reilly just behind him in 12th with a time of 55.22. Jay Wegimont was 16th with a time of 56.60.
Gartman took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.73 with De Leone finishing eighth with a time of 1:46.16. Benoit was 13th with a time of 1:48.82, with Hudson just behind him in 14th with a 1:49.09.Durette rounded out the Iona finishers with a 19th place finish in a time of 1:51.31.
Gronkowski took 10th in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 55.78. Przekota was 12th with a time of 56.35, while Wu was 15th with a time of 58.71.
Magura was third in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.10, with Weir finishing seventh with a time of 1:01.45 and Bocage finishing eighth with a time of 1:01.79.
In the 1650 yard freestyle, Benoit took third with time of 16:50.13. De Leone was sixth with a time of 17:07.07 and O'Connor took 14th with a time of 17:53.27.
In the 200 yard medley relay, the team of Przekota, Magura, Tasman and Gronkowski took third with a time of 1:37.11. The team of Wu, Yacobacci, Kolodgie and Weir finished sixth with a time of 1:40.11.
In the 200 yard backstroke, Joyal took 17th with a time of 2:06.86, with Przekota in 18th with a time of 2:07.57, Durette in 19th with a time of 2:09.18, O'Connor in 20th with a time of 2:13.72 and Callinan in 21st with a time of 2:14.98.
In the 100 yard freestyle, Tasman took second with a time of 46.23, with Gartman just behind in third with a time of 46.59. Gronkowski was sixth with a time of 47.45 and Hudson was seventh with a time of 47.76.Weir took 13th with a 48.56 and Wegimont was 21st with a 52.04.
Yacobacci set another school record with a first place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:06.10. Magura was fifth with a 2:14.15 with Bocage coming in 10th with a time of 2:18.46. Siemeck was 16th with a time of 2:26.15.
Kolodgie took third in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:56.25. O'Reilly was 13th with a time of 2:02.74, with Wu coming in 14th with a 2:04.36 and Wegimont in 16th with a time of 2:08.03.
The time of Yacobacci, Kolodgie, Weir and De Leone took third in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:13.22.
In three meter diving, Daniel Pflager was sixth with 79.65 points. In one meter diving, Pflager finished sixth with 87.35 points.
