RAMS DENY GAELS, 70-64

BRONX, NY - The Iona College women's basketball team fell to 3-5 on the season with a 70-64 road defeat at Fordham.  The game marks the first Gael loss in the last five meetings between the two teams.

Senior Thazina Cook led the Gaels with a season-high 21 points along with nine rebounds, and finished one shy of logging her 1,000th career point.  Cook's co-captain, junior Suzi Fregosi, followed up with 11 points including 7-of-9 from the free throw line and led all players in both assists (8) and steals (7).

Iona led 43-41 in rebounds, 15-8 in steals, and 7-2 in three point field goals.  Also in the Gaels' favor was a commanding 23-4 edge in points off the bench.  Fordham scored the first points of the game at the 19:42 mark and never relinquished the lead.  The Rams were in front by as much as 11 points in the first half.

Tiffany Stokes had a double-double with 20 points and 14 boards to lead host Fordham, while Randall Hurst and Becky Peters each contributed 15 points.

The Gaels return to the familiar confines of the Hynes Athletics Center following a season-long five game road stretch.  The squad hosts Georgia State at 7:30 pm on Dec. 18.
