NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's basketball team dropped a 75-60 decision to Siena in MAAC action at the Hynes Center.  Senior Gary Springer posted 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Gaels (12-15, 7-9 MAAC).

The Saints' (21-6, 15-1 MAAC) decisive run came late in the first half.  Leading 23-22 with 5:22 to go, Siena scored 11 straight points over the next four minutes to take an 11 point advantage.

The Gaels fought back in the second half and cut the deficit to five points with 6:40 remaining.  Sophomore Rashon Dwight buried a jumper from the foul line to cut the margin to 59-54.  After a Siena turnover,  Edwin Ubiles' steal and fast break dunk the Maroon & Gold's 9-0 run.   The Saints went on to score the next seven points to regain their double-digit advantage less than two minutes later.

Springer shot 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line.  Five of his team-high eight boards came on the offense end.  Rookie point guards Scott Machado and Jermel Jenkins each had nine points.   Machado also dished out eight assists.   Sophomore Alejo Rodriguez grabbed seven rebounds in the loss.

The Saints were led by Ubiles and classmate Alex Fraklin.  Ubiles had 21 points while Franklin posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 boards.

The Gaels return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Boston University for an ESPNU Bracketbusters matchup at 1:00 pm.
