Box Score BOSTON, MA - The Iona College men's basketball team fell to Boston University 63-57 in an ESPNU Bracketbusters match up at Case Gym. Junior Milan Prodanovic and senior Gary Springer had 12 points each in the loss.
After trailing by 20-9 midway through the first half and 30-13 with 5:23 to play, the Gaels mounted a furious comeback and scored 13 in a row to end the half. The Terriers led 30-26 at halftime.
BU got its lead to 40-34 a little less than four minutes into the second half. Iona's 8-2 run erased the deficit at 44-42 at the 13:19 mark. Freshman Jermel Jenkins gave the Gaels their first lead since the opening possessions of the contest with a three-pointer from the corner to make the score 49-47 at 11:21. After the Terriers tied the score on the next possession, Prodanovic drained a three to give Iona a 52-49 lead. Boston University answered by scoring the game's next seven points and ended the game on a 14-5 run to earn the six point win.
Springer was 6-of-7 from the field with two rebounds and two steals before fouling out with just over three minutes to play. Prodanovic connected on four three pointers in the loss. Sophomore Rashon Dwight was the Gaels top playmaker with a career-high eight assists to go along with nine points and four steals.
BU sophomore John Holland had 24 and freshman Jake O'Brien added 17 for the home team.
The Gaels return to MAAC action for an important MAAC contest vs. Saint Peter's on Friday night in Jersey City. The two teams battle to stay out of an opening round game in the 2009 MAAC Championship.
