GAELS GET THE STOPPER AT MANHATTAN

RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona College women's basketball team completed its season series against Manhattan with a 72-65 victory in MAAC action at Draddy Gymnasium.  The win put a stop to a two-game slide for the Gaels (14-11, 7-7 MAAC) while the Jaspers  (7-17, 4-9 MAAC) have now lost six of seven.

Iona had four scorers reach double figures, led by freshman Kristina Ford's 17 points.  Sophomore Thazina Cook added 16 points off the bench while rookie Milica Paligoric had her first career start.  The Maroon & Gold shot 41.5% from the field, the squad's most successful effort since Dec. 31, and got to the free throw line a season-high 39 times.

Annie McIntyre led all players with 18 points for Manhattan, followed by 15 from Kerri White.  The Gaels outrebounded the Jaspers 41-36, with sophomore Anda Ivkovic leading the way with nine.

The Gaels host Siena at 2:00 pm on Feb. 15 in a Pink Zone event to help raise money for breast cancer research.  There will be a special halftime performance by Hannah Montana's Moises Arias courtesy of Radio Disney.
