Box Score RIVERDALE, NY-  The Iona College men's basketball team dropped a 52-39 decision to Manhattan in MAAC action at Draddy Gym.  Freshman Scott MachadoGary Springer recorded 13 points and added 10 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

The Gaels (11-14, 6-8 MAAC) failed to get their offense clicking, shooting a season low 18.6% from the field.   Trailing by just single digits for the majority of the contest, the Jaspers (14-10, 8-6 MAAC) pulled away in the final four minutes by scoring seven straight points to take a 45-33 advantage with 2:37 to play.

Both Machado and Springer did most of their damage from the free throw line.   Machado converted 8-of-12 attempts while Springer was 6-for-10.

Manhattan sophomore Chris Smith led his squad with 15 points.  Junior Darryl Crawford chipped in 13 with the help of an 11-for-11 performance at the free throw line.

The Gaels are back in action on Friday night when they take on Loyola in matchup that will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
