FAIRFIELD, CT - With his team-leading sixth goal of the year, senior Giovanni Destasio helped lead the Iona College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart on the road.  The Gaels (5-1-2) have won two in a row heading into their final non-conference matchup.

The game-winner came on a penalty kick in the 19th minute and would be the only tally of the night.  Destasio has now scored in five of Iona's eight contests this season including the last three straight.

Destasio and Fernando Liserra each recorded two shots on goal while Mario Rios had one.  The Maroon & Gold held a slim 13-12 shot advantage and led 3-2 in corner kicks.  Goalkeeper Nils Binstock made three saves in his fourth shutout of 2009 and the 19th of his career.

Iona closes out non-league action on Sep. 30, hosting NJIT at Mazzella Field beginning at 3:00 pm.
