NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's basketball team won its fifth straight game with a 61-45 victory over Rider at the Hynes Center, matching the program's longest conference winning streak reached during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. The win pushed the Gaels, who are now 9-8 overall and 4-1 in MAAC play, over .500 for the first time since November 20.
Thazina Cook led all players with a career-high 24 points on a 9-11 effort from the field. Cook also had six rebounds, one assist, and one steal in her first start since December 9.
Anna McLean added 13 points and six boards.
Suzi Fregosi dished out a game-leading seven assists. The Maroon & Gold picked up 16 steals for the third time this year.
Natasha Morris was the lone Peahen in double figures with 15 points on the night.
Iona returns to action at home on Friday (Jan. 22) with a noon contest against local foe Manhattan.
