BUFFALO, NY - A second-half goal by freshman
Samuel Adjei helped propel the Iona College men's soccer team past Canisius in a 1-0 road win to end a four game slide. The Gaels (3-6-1, 1-1-0 MAAC) picked up their first conference win of the season while the Golden Griffins (1-8-1) evened their league mark to 1-1.
Adjei recorded the topper, his third of the year, in the 47th minute to break a scoreless tie. Senior
Mario Rios fed a pass to the rookie, who got behind the Canisius defense and beat goalkeeper Kareem Gray with a shot to the right side.
Adjei's two shots in the contest were matched by sophomore
Douglas Stephens who also contributed to Iona's ten total. The Gaels led the Griffs 7-3 in corner kicks on the afternoon. Netminder
Jesse Fullerton made seven saves in his first career shutout and third overall win. Gray had two saves for Canisius.
Iona continues MAAC action at home on Oct. 15, hosting Marist at 3:00 pm.
