NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's soccer team was shutout by Marist in a 2-0 loss in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Mazzella Field. The Gaels, who's young offensive attack has been struggling to score, have now lost four of their last five contests.
The Red Foxes (6-5-0, 1-1-0) picked up a goal in each half while holding the Maroon & Gold (3-7-1, 1-2-0) out of the net en route to the two-goal victory. Marist jumped on the scoreboard in the 19th minute when Mike McGowan chipped the ball to Stephan Brossard, who knocked it in from the left side for his fifth tally of the year. Lucas Szabo later gave the visitors some padding with his 74th minute goal off a feed from Krystian Witkowski.
Down 1-0, Iona nearly tied things up in the 73rd minute when a header by
Marcellin Bilali hit the left post. Bilali added two more shots as time wound down, but one was saved by Marist goalkeeper Joe Pilla and the second went wide. Another late attempt by
MJ Nestor also went wide left.
Pilla totaled three saves for the Red Foxes while Iona's
Jesse Fullerton had six. The Gaels continue their string of three straight games at home with a Sunday afternoon match-up against Siena at 1:00 pm.
