RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona College men's soccer team improved its record in conference play to 4-3 (6-8-1 overall) with an early morning 3-0 win at Manhattan (0-14, 0-8 MAAC). The Gaels produced across the board, with goals from freshmen
Franklin Castellanos and
Orlando Castaneda as well as senior
Mario Rios.
The Maroon & Gold outshot the Jaspers 15-2 in the first half and 11-7 in the second for a total shot advantage of 26-9. The squad also led 5-1 in corner kicks. With two saves in the contest, goalkeeper
Jesse Fullerton earned his sixth comprehensive victory and fourth shutout. Manhattan's Joseph Lorenz had seven saves.
Iona opened a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute as Castellanos scored from inside the box, placing the ball in the right corner off a feed from senior
Julian Grajales. The edge was pushed to 2-0 early in the second period. Taking a pass from Castellanos, Castaneda netted a solid strike from approximately twelve feet out in the left corner. Rios ended the day's scoring with a successful penalty kick just past the 60 minute mark on his first attempt of the year.

Samuel Adjei led the team with five shots in the game, followed by Castaneda and classmate
Victor Munoz with four each. Iona returns home to host Rider (Nov. 5) and Loyola (Nov. 7) in the final weekend of the regular season.
