NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's basketball team extended its record-setting winning streak to nine games with a 75-63 victory over Fairfield at the Hynes Athletics Center. After dropping their conference opener on Jan. 3, the Gaels stand at 9-1 in MAAC play and 13-8 overall.
Iona is now in a six-way tie for the eighth longest current winning streak in the country.
Thazina Cook led all players with a career-high 25 points along with 13 rebounds to reach her third double-double of the year. Kristina Ford also achieved the feat with ten points and ten boards. Suzi Fregosi set a new season standard with a 14-point performance while dishing out five assists and stealing three. Anda Ivkovic chipped in with 12 points to round out Iona's double figure scorers and also added two blocks.
For Fairfield (10-11, 4-6 MAAC), Stephanie Geehan led four Stags in double figures with 19 points. Katelyn Linney followed with 13. Iona outrebounded Fairfield 39-28.
The Gaels will square off against Marist for the number one spot in the MAAC with a 7:30 pm tilt on Feb. 5.
