IONA DEFEATED AT PROVIDENCE, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Iona College women's soccer team was held scoreless in non-conference action with a 4-0 loss at Providence.  The Gaels have played two of their first three games on the road, and return home for a 1:00 contest against Stony Brook on Sunday.

Iona had two opportunites in the first half. The first opportunity came in the 17th minute when junior D Lisa Murer took a shot from the 18 yard-box, but Providence goalkeeper Jill Schott made a diving save to her left. In the 32nd minute, senior MF/D Lauren Machtel was headed towards goal, but Providence's Jenna Roncarati was able to catch up with the play and shield the ball out of bounds.

Amanda Webster led the Friars with two goals while Jill Camburn and Stephanie Leonard had one each.  For the Gaels, rookie goalkeeper Jacquelyn Gates made three saves before being relieved by classmate Trista Rivera, who saved two.
