NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's water polo team was unable to hold a halftime lead on No. 12 St. Francis (NY) at the Hynes Athletic Center Wednesday night. The Terriers were able to outscore the Gaels 8-1 in the second half en route to a 12-9 victory.
Iona led 8-5 at halftime after playing arguably their best half of polo all season. The Gaels were able to gain the advantage on timely defensive stops and saves courtesy of freshman
Stefen Hill, who made a stopped a number of one-on-one shot attempts throughout the game. In the third quarter, the Gaels were only able to put a ball in the net after the Terriers scored three unanswered goals in the opening minutes. A goal by senior
Seth Tasman was all the Gaels could get in the second as St. Francis pulled away with four goals in the final quarter.
The Gaels were led by Tasman, junior
Trevor Creighton and sophomore
Kristian Bocage, who all had two goals. Bocage also had two assists while Creighton added a helper of his own. Juniors
Matt Joslyn and
Cameron Hudson had two points each on a goal and an assist. The final Iona tally came from freshman
Sean Davis.
Hill stopped a season high 15 shots in the game. The Gaels resume play this weekend when they travel to Cambridge, MA to take on Harvard Saturday evening at 9:00 pm.
