NEW ROCHELLE, NY - As students returned to the classroom, the Iona College men's swimming and diving team returned to the familiar confines of the Hynes Center Pool for a Tuesday evening matchup with Saint Peter's College. The Gaels, who earlier this season outscored the Peacocks at the Loyola Invitational, were unable to repeat the task as the Peacocks outscoreded the Maroon & Gold by a final tally of 135 - 96.
Nick Kotonias took first in the 1000 yd freestyle with a time of 10:17.48.
Joseph De Leone was just behind in second with a time of 10:22.99.
Zach Benoit was fourth for the Gaels with a time of 10:29.11.
Justin Grigull took second in the 200 yd freestyle with a time of 1:48.33, with Porrazzo taking fourth with a time of 1:50.11.
Michael O'Connor was sixth with a time of 2:00.01.
Hudson took first in the 50 yd freestyle with a time of 22.81.
Graham Weir was third in the event, clocking in with a time of 22.90.
In the 200 yd butterfly, Kotonias was second with a time of 2:03.72.
Patrick O'Reilly was fourth in the race with a time of 2:09.38, with
Michael Wu behind in fifth with a time of 2:10.95.
Hudson took second in the 100 yd freestyle with a time of 50.38, with Elfert just behind in third with a time of 50.65. Weir was fifth in the event with a time of 50.93.
Wallace was second in the 200 yd backstroke with a time of 2:02.58.
Marty Callinan was fifth with a time of 2:15.38, with Carbone sixth with a time of 2:24.84.
The Gaels swept the top three spots in the 500 yd freestyle. Grigull was first in the event, touching the wall with a time of 4:59.60. De Leone was second with a time of 5:02.75, with Benoit third with a time of 5:06.96.
In the 200 yd breaststroke,
Chris Yacobacci was second with a time of 2:11.99. Giovine was third with a time of 2:13.24. Stelnicki was fifth with a time of 2:17.99.
Grigull, Weir, De Leone and Yacobacci took second in the final event, the 400 yd freestyle relay, with a time of 3:24.99. The relay of
Lee Stiles, Stelnicki, Creighton and Wallace was third with a time of 3:35.25.
The Gaels return to the water at home on Sat. Jan. 29, when they host Fairfield at 1:00 pm.
