BOSTON, MA - The Iona College men's swimming and diving team opened up their 2011-12 campaign winning a three of four possible dual meets in the first ever New England Catholic Invitational Swim Meet sponsored by Boston College and held at the William J. Flynn Sports Complex on the Chestnut Hill Campus this past Friday and Saturday.

Chris Yacobacci and wins from
Justin Grigull and
Tyler Elfert defeated Regis (231-82); LeMoyne (210-118) and Holy Cross (203-130). The men dropped the meet to the Boston College (200-135) in the first ever match against an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) team to end the weekend at 3-1.
In men's top six action, Yacobacci was first in the 200-IM at 2:00.10; and, in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke with respective times of 1:00.65 and 2:13.57.
Elfert was first in the 100-Butterfly at 55.29 and fifth in the 200-Butterfly at 2:05.22, while Grigull was first in the 500-Free at 5:06.10 and sixth in the 200-Free at 1:52.75.
Nick Kotonias was second in both 1000-Freestyle at 10:20.51 and 400-IM at 4:24.99. Kotonias was also fourth in the 200-Butterfly at 2:04.63.
Mark Wallace was second in the 200-Back at 2:05.20 and fourth in the 100-Back at 56.48.
Michael Wu and
Jay Wegimont were fourth and sixth, respectively at 58.03 and 58.55 in the 100-Butterfly.
Chris Giovine was second in the 200-Breast at 2:18.42 and third in the 1000-Freestyle at 10:39.87.
Brian France was fifth at 2:30.54 in the 200-Breaststroke. Freshman
James Cooney was sixth in the one-meter event with a total of 174.00.
The Gaels return to action on Saturday, October 29 as they open their home slate with another multi team dual meet event as the women will take on Wagner College, St. Francis College and Sacred heart University and the Men race SFC. Diving will begin at 9am and swimming at 11:30am.
