Women's Soccer Loss At Niagara Sets Up Important Sunday for the Gaels

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY - The Iona College women's soccer team fell to Niagara, 4-0 on the road Friday night. The Purple Eagles used three second half goals to distance themselves from the Gaels.

Niagara's Breanna Catipovic scored twice and Kathryn Potter recorded two assists for the home team in the win.

Iona was outshot 10-6 in the contest. Sophomore GK Trista Rivera made three saves while her counterpart, Gabrielle Wilson stopped four.

The Gaels complete the 2011 regular season on Sunday at Canisius, still holding their own MAAC Championship bid fate. With a win, Iona can clinch its first non-Disney berth in the tournament since 2004. If the Gaels and Griffs tie, the Maroon & Gold need Loyola to tie or lose vs. Saint Peter's. A loss would end the season.
