DURHAM, NH - The Iona College men's soccer team built upon its season-opening victory, climbing to 2-0 to start the year after a 2-1 road win over New Hampshire (1-1). Sophomore MF
Franklin Castellanos added two more assists to his career total.
With two games checked off the schedule, Castellanos has recorded four assists, contributing to each of Iona's four goals thus far.
After giving up a goal to the Wildcats' David Schlatter in the 27th minute, the Maroon & Gold still trailed 1-0 midway through the second half. Things changed when, in the 64th minute, Castellanos served a ball to
Samuel Adjei in the left side of the box. Adjei put it in the right side of the net to tie the score at 1-1 and earn his second goal of the year.
Two-and-a-half minutes later Iona rookie
Ignacio Maganto knocked in the game-winner, also off a feed from Castellanos. Maganto faked a spin move at the top of the box and netted a shot to the right side to put the Gaels ahead for good in the contest.
Current Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week
Borja Barbero made five saves in net for Iona, a number matched by New Hampshire netminder Travis Worra.
The Gaels return to road action in the Lafayette Classic, facing La Salle on Sep. 9 and Mount St. Mary's on Sep. 11.
