BURLINGTON, VT - On the heels of its first win of 2011, the Iona College soccer team was held scoreless in a 1-0 defeat to Vermont on the road. The Gaels are now 1-3 on the year while the Catamounts moved to 2-1-1 with their second straight victory.
The lone goal of the contest came in the 18th minute, when Vermont's Alexandra Dezenzo crossed in a ball from the right flank. Her teammate, Haley Marks knocked it down at the top of the penalty box and fired a shot into the left side of the net with her second touch to put the hosts ahead 1-0.
Iona's six shots in the contest were spread evenly over both halves. All three of the squad's second-half attempts were on goal, but all three were stopped by Catamount keeper Sarah Leiby. Gael goalie

Nicole Paulucci led the Maroon & Gold with two shots on goal while
Kerrie Deignan added one.
Iona concludes a two-game road trip at Maine on Sep. 4. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
