JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Iona College men's swimming and diving squad returned to
action Tuesday evening with a meet against MAAC rival Saint Peter's. The Peacocks
picked up wins in eight events to top the Gaels by the score of 122-104.
Sophomore
Justin Grigull took
first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:02.04 while junior
Zach
Benoit was fourth with a time of 10:38.26 and junior
Denis O'Connor was fifth with a time of 11:23.19.
In the 200 yard freestyle, junior
Joseph De Leone
took second with a time of 1:50.53 and sophomore
Nick
Kotonias took fifth with a time of 1:53.76. Freshman
Connor Reid was sixth with a time of 1:56.44 and junior
Marty Callinan finished seventh with a time of 1:57.41.
Hudson finished third in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.44 with Stiles placing sixth with a time of 23.27. Sophomore
Ryan
Bacci was seventh with a time of 23.78 and junior
Kristian
Bocage was eighth with a time of 23.97.
In the 200 yard IM, Yacobacci took second with a time of 1:58.65. Elfert was
fourth with a time of 2:07.93 and Stelnicki was fifth with a time of 2:08.59.
In the 200 yard fly, Kotonias was third with a time of 2:03.09. Eller took fifth
with a time of 2:20.97 and Wegimont was sixth with a time of 2:26.07.
In the 100 yard freestyle, Elfert was second with a time of 50.11. Hudson
finished third with a time of 50.22 and Bacci took fifth with a time of 51.65.
In the 200 yard backstroke, Reid was the Gaels' top finisher, taking fourth with
a time of 2:19.20. Callinan was fifth with a time of 2:20.61 and O'Connor was sixth
with a time of 2:20.74.
Grigull was first with a time of 4:56.88 in the 500 yard freestyle. De Leone was
second with a time of 5:01.28 and Benoit was sixth with a time of 5:13.90
Yacobacci finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:07.93
while the 200 freestyle relay team of Bacci, De Leone, Stiles and Grigull finished with
a time of 1:29.91.
In diving, freshman
James Cooney was second in the one-meter competition with 61.45 points. He won the three-meter event with 68.75
points.
Iona returns to the pool Saturday when they travel to Fairfield.
