LOUDONVILLE, NY – Senior
Laura Jackson scored with 8:15 remaining in regulation to give the Iona College women's soccer team a 1-1 (2OT) tie with Siena in MAAC play on Friday afternoon.
Both sides used second half tallies to gain a point in the standings, as the Gaels improve to 5-5-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the MAACs. Siena trails Iona in the conference leaderboard with a 5-7-1 overall record and 1-2-1 in MAAC's.
Caitlin Cahalan scored four minutes into the second half to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Cahalan accepted a pass that was misplayed by the Iona defense and then once again used the Iona backend to score.
With time winding down the Gaels once again moved the offense forward and got a brilliant long distance shot from Jackson that was punched away by Siena netminder Taylor Booth, but after hitting a defender rolled over the goal line.
Iona outshot Siena 15-12 in the contest and held a 4-3 edge in overtime shots. Junior
Trista Rivera made three saves in the contest, including a header in the 108th minute that secured the overtime point.
Iona will meet first place Marist on Sunday at 1 pm. The Gaels will conclude the regular season with their final three games at Mazzella Field.
