The Iona College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Loyola University Maryland Friday afternoon in a rain soaked matchup at Mazzella Field.

Loyola was able to stretch out to a 3-0 lead that the Gaels would find insurmountable.  In the 31st minute, Stephen Dooley found the net for the fifth time this season when he redirected a pass from Dominic Marshall into the lower left side of the net past a diving effort from Iona's Borja Barbero.

With the Greyhounds ahead by one after the first half, Loyola struck again less than ten minutes into the second frame.  Larry Ndjock picked up his first of two goals on the day in the 59th minute when he headed in a pass from Dooley for his eighth goal of the season.  Ndjock followed that up less than three minutes later when he struck a shot past the Iona defense to push Loyola ahead 3-0.

Iona got on the board in the 71st minute.  After a foul was called in the box during an Iona free kick, senior Alvaro Torrecilla converted the ensuing penalty kick for his third goal of the season, putting a shot into the right side of the cage past Loyola goalkeeper Thurman Van Riper.

Overall, the squads were even with 15 shots apiece, with Loyola holding an 8-4 advantage on shots on goal.  Van Riper made three saves for the Greyhounds while Barbero stopped five shots for Iona.

The loss marked the first two-goal defeat of the Gaels in MAAC play since Oct. 15, 2010 when Marist topped Iona 2-0 at Mazzella.

Iona will look to get back on track Sunday afternoon when they host Rider at 1:00 pm.
