Men's Soccer Falls To No. 6 Connecticut, 2-0

STORRS, CT - A pair of second half goals proved to be the difference as the Iona College men's soccer team fell to No. 6 Connecticut Tuesday evening at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in its final non-conference contest of the season.

The Gaels were able to keep Connecticut off the board in the first half, despite the Huskies taking nine shots.  The Gaels were only able to put two shots up in the 45 minutes of play.

In the 52nd minute, Connecticut was able to put across what would be the game winner.  Stephane Diop brought the ball up the left side and set a cross to Allando Matheson, who headed the ball in past Iona keeper Borja Barbero for his seventh goal of the season.

In the 80th minute, the Huskies added an insurance on Mamadou Diouf's ninth goal of the season, off an assist from Adria Beso.

Overall, the Gaels were outshot 19-5 by their BIG EAST opponents, led by junior Franklin Castellanos' two shots.  Connecticut goalkeeper Andre Blake made three saves while Barbero made seven stops for Iona.

The Gaels look to get back on track when they return to league action Friday evening at 7:00 pm at Manhattan.
