BALTIMORE, MD – The Iona College men's swimming team dropped all three dual meet competitions at the Loyola Invitation over the weekend. The Gaels dropped to host Loyola (208-149), Marist (201-145) and Saint Peter's (186-140).
The team performed well in individual races, coming away with seven impressive wins. Junior
Justin Grigull was a part of five first place races, including the 100 (47.12), 200 (1:44.24) and 500 (4:38.26) freestyle, and the 400 and 800 relays.
Senior
Chris Yacobacci took first in the three events, joining Grigull in the 400-Free relay and then winning the 400-IM (4:09.07) and 200-breaststroke (2:04.53).
Iona took fourth place in the 400-Medley, finishing just two seconds behind Loyola at 3:34.56.
The 800-Free winning relay finished in 7:04.57 with Yacobacci and Grigull starting and anchoring the race. De Leone and freshman
Scott Martin took part in the victory.
In the 200-Free relay, Iona placed fourth with Bacci and De Leon also starting and anchoring the race with junior
Tyler Elfert and freshman Thomas Keefe in the middle, finishing at 1:28.42.
Junior
Chris Giovine took third in the 100-Breastroke at 1:00.25. Martin also placed third in the 1650, finishing at 17:05.55.
