Aleesha Powell, the Iona College women's basketball team rolled to a 73-47 victory Friday afternoon at the Hynes Center.
Iona never trailed in the contest after opening with a jumper by Martinez just over a minute into the game. Leading by just one, 8-7, Iona went on a 12-3 run, capped by a layup by freshman forward
Joy Adams with 6:44 remaining in the first to open up a double digit lead that it would not relinquish.

Haley D'Angelo, Colgate cut the lead to 15, 30-15, after a three-point play by Josie Stockill. Iona was able to reclaim its 18 point lead on a three-pointer by freshman guard
Aaliyah Robinson with 1:23 remaining. Colgate countered with a pair of free throws before Robinson knocked down another three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in the half, giving Iona its biggest lead, 36-17, as they headed to the locker room.
In the opening 20 minutes, the Gaels outshot the Raiders 50.0%-19.4, including 40.0%-0.0% from behind the arc.
Martinez opened the second half with a layup to give Iona a 21 point lead, 38-17, with 18:56 remaining. With 16:11 left, a layup by Colgate's Lulu Brase cut the Iona lead back into the teens, at 42-23, before Iona went on a 9-0 run to take its largest lead of the game, 51-23, on a three-pointer by Powell with 14:05 remaining as the Gaels would run away with the 26 point victory.
Martinez led the Gaels with 17 points on an 8-for-13 effort from the field, while Powell had 15 points, including a season high three three-pointers, to go along with four assists and three steals. Adams contributed her third straight double-double, finishing with 10 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Robinson had seven points and a team high seven assists in the win.
Iona is back in action Dec. 30, when they travel to Stony Brook for a 2:00 pm.
