Men's Soccer Falls At Siena, 2-0

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Two late second half goals propelled Siena to a 2-0 victory over the Iona College men's soccer team Saturday afternoon at Siena Turf Field.

The loss drops Iona to 5-6-2 overall on the season, and a 2-2-1 mark in league play. Siena improved its mark to 6-6 overall, 2-2 in the MAAC.

In the 73rd minute, the Saints were awarded a penalty kick following an Iona foul in the box. Siena's Matt Hemsley would then convert for his second goal of the season, which turned out to be all the Saints would need.

Less than five minutes later, the Saints would stretch their cushion to 2-0 when David Itoafa took a cross feed from the right side and volleyed it in for his second goal of the season.

The Gaels had chances throughout the contest, taking 16 shots, including seven on goal. Senior Samuel Adjei led the Maroon & Gold with four shots in the game.  Siena had 11 shots, four on goal. Both squads came out aggressive in the contest, resulting in 29 fouls and seven yellow cards.

For Iona, freshman goalkeeper Julian Petrello made two saves. Siena goalkeeper Adam Myers made seven saves for the shutout.

Iona continues league play Wednesday, when it hosts Marist at 3:00 pm.
