aNEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College men's basketball senior Lamont Jones scored a game-high 35 points to help lead the Gaels (16-13, 10-7 MAAC) to a 90-86 win over Loyola in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Hynes Center. Three other Maroon & Gold performers scored double-digits for in the victory over the Greyhounds (20-10, 11-6 MAAC).

Jones shot 11-for-15 for the field in the contest including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. He was also 9-for-11 from the free throw line. Senior Taaj Ridley had 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting, sophomore David Laury posted 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds and shot 7-of-9 while junior Tre Bowman added 13 points and six boards hitting 5-of-7 shots from the field.

Iona tied a school record playing in its ninth straight contest decided by less than 10 points. After dropping seven of the previous eight, the Gaels prevailed with the assistance of a ridiculous 19-of-25 performance from the field in the second half to propel them to the victory.

The two teams played in a close game throughout. The first of two huge daggers for the Maroon & Gold including a thunderous put back dunk by Bowman with 3:57 on the clock that gave the Gaels a 70-66 lead to stop a 5-0 run by the Greyhounds. The second came with 2:12 to play on a three-pointer from the corner by Jones that put the Gaels up by double digits with 2:12 to play.

The Greyhounds did not quit and got the game to within four points but Iona's 8-for-10 performance from the free throw line secured the four point victory.

Senior Robert Olson and junior Erik Etherly had 23 points each in the loss. Senior Anthony Winbush added 20 points and eight boards. Ethery completed a double-double with 10 boards. Leading scorer, junior Dylon Cormier had just six points but dished out six assists.

The Gaels complete their regular season on Sunday on Senior Day at the Hynes Center when they take on Siena at 2:00 pm. Ironically, it is the Greyhounds that have the biggest bearing on Iona's MAAC Championship seed. Should Loyola defeat Manhattan Sunday, the Gaels would finish No. 4 or No. 5 in the standings. A Greyhound loss put the Maroon & Gold in the No. 3 vs. No. 6 quarterfinal contest.
